SIMPLE-TC™ Tutoring Design Series

Build a scalable, sustainable tutoring culture

How can teaching team leaders or other teacher-leaders create a small-group tutoring culture on their teams and in their schools?

This series explains our SIMPLE-TC™ tutoring design framework, showing how to create small-group instruction that reaches all students, provided by all available adults within the school.

Start with Multi-Classroom Leader™ educators guiding—and all adults providing

Intentionally plan and internalize lessons and assignments—in advance, by adopting and adapting curricula

Monitor and adjust—lesson content and student groups, using student learning data

Prioritize “small for all”—using smaller groups for all students

Lengthen time in smaller groups—minimize time teaching whole class at once

Engage students—interpersonally to focus and motivate

Who should participate in this professional learning series?

Educators in the Multi-Classroom Leader™ role, school leaders, and district leaders who want to learn more about a research-based approach to building a scalable, sustainable tutoring culture on teaching teams will benefit from this framework, as will educators in schools not currently using this teaching team role.

Surveys from a recent session showed participants strongly agreed that the session would positively impact student learning growth on their campus, that they left with clear next steps for continued development, and that they intended to take their learning back to the classroom.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion that can be submitted to their school district to apply for CEU credits, and optional full certification in SIMPLE-TC™ tutoring design is possible if participants complete the series and quizzes.

If you currently lead a teaching team, check with your principal or your district’s director of Opportunity Culture® implementation to determine whether you are already registered.

What does the series cover?

Each 2-hour module highlights different elements of the S-I-M-P-L-E method:

Module 1 | Start with Multi-Classroom Leader™ educators guiding—and all adults providing:

Learn to create teaching team schedules that include all adults providing small-group teaching and tutoring by honing a process for assigning adults to student groups and content and building the adults’ skills through coaching.

Module 2 | Intentionally plan and internalize lessons and assignments—in advance, by adopting and adapting curricula:

Focus on planning instruction that adapts curricula to differentiate lessons and units to give students opportunity to work on or above grade level, making lessons culturally relevant to the school’s student population.

Module 3 | Monitor and adjust—lesson content and student groups, using student learning data:

Learn how to lead your teaching team to assess student knowledge and skill before and within units, using assessments aligned to state standards, and adjust lessons, units, and student groups and adult pairings based on the most recent data.

Module 4 | Prioritize “small for all”—using smaller groups for all students—by Lengthening time in smaller groups and minimizing time teaching whole class at once:

Learn to lead your teaching team to design and execute lessons in smaller groups, reducing students’ time in whole-group instruction, by identifying methods and strategies that give all students the opportunity to receive small-group instruction.

Module 5 | Engage students interpersonally to focus and motivate:

Learn how to lead your teaching team to build intellectually and socially safe learning environments by coaching teachers to build learning partnerships in their classrooms and the community that fosters high growth for all students.
